Mingei (folk craft) was created in 1925 by Muneyoshi Yanagi, Shoji Hamada, and Kanjiro Kawai. Mingei is a social movement that has lasted for 100 years and advocates "finding beauty in everyday utensils and aesthetically transforming life and society. While profoundly understanding traditional mingei, the design attempted to evolve into a new expression by fusing tradition with a modern perspective for this 100-year milestone. The simple, white-based layout with a strong presence symbolizes "everyday life tools" while attempting to create an affinity with the beauty of rustic tools.
For us, design is about sharing what brings us joy. Through the act of making that is design, such as graphic, editorial, signs, and corporate identity design, we had the opportunity to encounter amazing people as well as projects. Not a single one of them, however, could have been completed solely by us. Design takes shape through the collaboration and the words that are exchanged with many other people. We want to share in that joy too. This is what we believe design to be.
