Google has partnered with Creative Theory Agency [CTA] to create a Black-owned Business Attribute, an icon on Google Search and Maps’ that helps audiences identify & amplify Black-owned businesses. When designing the icon, CTA’s approach steered away from the obvious and literal cultural interpretations that could potentially be seen as negative representations or group specific. Instead CTA chose a more abstract design approach that leaned into tones for a subtle reflection of culture, to create something new that celebrated and represented the community.
